Visual Differences Between iTunes 9 and 10

maniacalrage:

A year ago, I compared the then-brand-new iTunes 9 against its predecessor. New year, new version of iTunes, so here’s an updated comparison. It’s amazing to see just how much visual tweaking Apple does with each new major version of the application.

The vertical arrangement of the window controls in iTunes 10 is… not so great in my opinion.

HTML5 Boilerplate

This seems like a great starting point for webdesign projects. Takes away a lot of overhead.

The Incident is finally out!

Beautiful pixelly artwork by Neven Mrgan. Installing it on my phone as I type this. I’ve had the ‘Surf’ wallpaper on my Cinema Display for months now. Be sure to check out the action packed trailers.

CSS Media Query for Mobile is Fool’s Gold

The idea of adding more code—adding more to download—in order to optimize for mobile should be the first clue that this isn’t a good solution.

Flickr rolls out new photo page

It’s a great improvement over the previous version. I’ve been using the beta since the day it came out. My favorite bits in no particular oder:

  • bigger images
  • keyboard navigation
  • mouse-over map animation
  • link to photostream overview page with a specific photo on it
  • better lightbox / slideshow
Beautiful handprinted lucha libre posters from Mexico.

There is no digital process, no plates, no pre-press. All the fonts, illustrations, sponsor logo’s, lines are already available in the workshop; they only have to be placed in the right order.

Web Duck

This tool takes the legwork out of converting font sizes in pixels to font sizes in ems. What makes it great is that you can even get the em values for nested elements.

I don’t know about the name though.

Today's Guardian

An absolutely brilliant way to present the content of a newspaper online. Phil Gyford set out to create an online reading experience that reduces friction, increases readability and gives the reader a sense of finishability. Be sure to read his blog post explaining the thinking behind this experiment.

Also: How great is it that the Guardian offers an API that grants free access to their content? This is what makes innovations like Today’s Guardian possible.

Magic Trackpad or tragic Mac pad? A review

Really great title on this review of the Magic Trackpad. I ordered my trackpad yesterday and am confident that it will be magic, not tragic.
